CAIRO, (PIC)-- PA chief Mahmoud Abbas stated Wednesday that the presidential and legislative elections might be held simultaneously ignoring that there are still two years before the expiration of the current democratically-elected PLC and that his term of office will end next January.
In a press statement to the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, PA chief said that he is against the armed resistance and intifada and all for negotiations with the Israeli occupation which have been taking place for about 17 years.
Regarding the inter-Palestinian dialog, PA chief explained that his dialog call was for implementing the Arab initiative and not for dialog, adding that Egypt will hold separate meetings with Palestinian factions to hear their positions in order to avoid repetition of any dispute like the one that occurred on the Sana'a declaration.
He called for sending Arab troops to the Gaza Strip, alleging that such forces will work on preserving security and rebuilding the security apparatuses on professional foundations.
The Hamas Movement did not rule out the news published Wednesday by the Ha'aretz newspaper which said that Abbas threatened to dissolve the PA if the Israeli occupation government released Hamas lawmakers and ministers imprisoned in its jails, considering such reports consistent with the PA and Fatah stands.
Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, the spokesman for the Hamas parliamentary bloc, revealed to the Quds Press news agency that the PA and Fatah leadership had asked Hamas earlier not to include the name of Fatah-affiliated MP Marwan Al-Barghouthi in any prisoner swap deal with Israel.
Dr. Bardawil elaborated that the PA and Fatah leaders believe that the release of Palestinian lawmakers and officials from Israeli jails will make Hamas score another victory against them.
