Prisoners' ministry: IOA bears no goodwill toward prisoners
[ 10/08/2008 - 10:09 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The ministry of prisoners' affairs in the Gaza Strip on Sunday said that the Israeli occupation authority did not bear any goodwill toward the Palestinian prisoners.

Riyadh Al-Ashqar, the ministry's spokesman, said in a press release that the reports about releasing 150 Palestinian prisoners were only meant to spread the illusion that the "useless" negotiations with the IOA did bear fruit.

He said that the Israeli occupation forces kidnap 10 to 15 Palestinians on daily basis from various occupied West Bank and Jerusalem areas and the number of captives is on the rise. Hence, the reports about releasing 150 prisoners, all to be chosen according to IOA standards, out of 11,700 were a mere "deception" and an attempt to "market unsuccessful projects" that only entailed disastrous consequences on the Palestinian people, he elaborated.

Ashqar predicted that the IOA would release tens of prisoners serving minor sentences or those whose sentences were about to end.

He said that the IOA was not serious in releasing prisoners through negotiations, noting that over the past 15 years of talks no old serving prisoners or prisoners serving life sentences were released.

The only road to release those captives is through capturing IOF soldiers, the ministry official underlined, and asked captors of IOF soldier Gilad Shalit to insist on their demands regarding the release of prisoners serving life sentences and those who spent long years in captivity.
