RAFAH, (PIC)-- Dr. Abdelmoneim Abu Al-Fotouh, the secretary-general of the union of Arab doctors, strongly denounced the Egyptian authorities for continuing to close the Rafah border crossing and blocking Arab medical teams from extending a helping hand to Gaza doctors.
Dr. Abu Al-Fotouh said that about 50 Arab doctors staged a protest on Wednesday to draw the attention of the Egyptian authorities to the need for opening the crossing before them, adding that Egyptian officials justified the decision to prevent doctors from entering Gaza as the absence of safe routes, but doctors said that they are ready to shoulder the consequences.
For its part, the Greek society of doctors for peace said that it experienced complications in traveling through the Rafah crossing and transporting medical and humanitarian assistance.
Head of the society Nicolas Racyas reported that the society sent five doctors to the Rafah crossing last Saturday carrying medical equipment, but the Egyptian authorities barred their entry into Gaza giving many excuses and pretexts.
