Hamas: Unbearable daily life in Gaza led the people to explode at Rafah
[ 23/01/2008 - 04:10 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Hamas Movement highlighted that what has happened on Wednesday morning at the Egyptian-Palestinian borders is "an expression of outrage" caused by the tragic daily life experienced by the Gaza people, which became unbearable.

"What took place is normal and a reflection of the anger resulting naturally from the siege, pressures and closed crossings which brought our people to an irrevocable moment of explosion," Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, stated in an exclusive statement to the PIC.

"What can we do before a people having been suffering from hunger for long months?" Abu Zuhri said in response to a question about the measures to be taken by the caretaker government to contain the situation at the Rafah border crossing.

Thousands of impoverished Palestinians were able this morning to cross the Egyptian-Palestinian borders towards the Egyptian territories after unknown armed men made big gaps in parts of the Rafah terminal's wall.

Dr. Abu Zuhri underlined that Egypt is the natural depth of the Palestinian people, adding that the Gaza people want to break their subjection to the Israeli occupation which blackmail them everyday with their basic needs; instead, they need their basics to come from their Arab nation rather than the occupation and this was what pushed them to rush towards the Rafah crossing.

The spokesman pointed out that the leadership of Hamas along with the Palestinian government in Gaza is conducting contacts with the Egyptian leadership to rearrange some issues about the Rafah crossing and also to find solutions to end the suffering of Gaza people.

Taking advantage of the current circumstances which led to the opening of Rafah crossing, the spokesman expressed his government's hope that Egypt will allow the transfer of dozens of Palestinian patients to get medical treatment in its hospitals as well as the entry of quantities of fuel needed to operate vital facilities in the Strip.
