DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Senior Hamas political leader and member of its political bureau Mohammed Nasr said on Tuesday that his Movement was ready to seriously deal with the idea of Tahdea (truce) provided it is a reciprocal and a comprehensive one.
He also made it clear that his Movement won’t give Israel a truce for gratis, adding that the Israeli occupation government should stop all forms of aggressions on the Palestinian people in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in addition to ending the economic blockade on the Strip.
In this concern, Nasr also denied reports suggesting that a truce deal was reached between Hamas and the IOA.
"We, in Hamas, neither have an initiative for a truce nor were we presented with one; however, in the event the Israeli occupation government has a certain proposal for truce then we will study such a proposal", said Nasr in an interview with the PIC.
"We are a people under occupation and we are suffering at the hands of this Zionist occupation the worst forms of terror, aggression and siege, therefore we resist this occupation with the means available to us and we cannot stop our resistance and self defense unless the enemy stops its aggression and siege, " he said stressing: "The siege is the same as aggression and there is no difference between those who are martyred by the enemy's fire and those who are martyred as a result of being denied food and medicine."
He also unveiled that a number of Arab, Muslim, and European countries had contacted Hamas's political leadership with the aim to discuss a truce between the Movement and the IOA.
"We explained to the parties that contacted us that the Zionists are the aggressors as they kill and terrorize our people and the rockets fired by the resistance, from Gaza, are but a response to aggression [..] If the Zionist occupation stops its aggression and lifts the siege, we will deal seriously with the issue of truce," said Nasr, describing the apparent shifting in the US stand on the principle of truce as "political tactics".
But he underlined that the Palestinian steadfastness and sacrifices against the latest Israeli vicious aggressions has prompted such US and EU shift of opinions.
The Yemeni initiative:
Speaking on the Yemeni initiative that aims at reconciling Fatah faction and Hamas , Nasr pointed out that his Movement will dispatch a delegation to the capital Yemeni Sana'a to thoroughly discuss the initiative with the Yemeni leadership.
"We, in Hamas, were and still are supporting an unconditional inter-Palestinian national dialogue because we believe that the dialogue is the only way to resolve and settle our political problems", Nasr emphasized.
He also stressed that his Movement will exert "double" efforts to bring the Yemeni initiative into full success taking into consideration the Palestinian supreme national interests
