Wajeb slams systematic kidnapping of Palestinian refugees in Iraq
[ 12/01/2012 - 11:30 AM ]

BEIRUT, (PIC)-- The Palestinian return assembly-Wajeb strongly denounced the Iraqi security forces for storming the municipal compound of the Palestinian refugees in Baghdad and kidnapping some of its residents.

"What the Iraqi police claimed about the involvement of Palestinians in booby-trapping a car and having weapons is an unfounded accusation and aimed at implicating the Palestinian refugees in Iraq and justifying any act targeting them," Wajeb stated in a press release on Wednesday.

It affirmed that the Iraqi police detained these Palestinians without any arrest warrants against them and called on the Iraqi government to end arbitrary arrests against the Palestinian refugees and their kidnapping on suspicion, and to release all former detainees from its jails.

The organization also demanded the Iraqi government to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian refugees and protect them against its security forces.

Wajeb questioned the position of the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO) towards the Palestinian refugees in Iraq and appealed to all factions to intervene to end their suffering.
