OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Jerusalemite human rights groups have warned that around one third of the population in the Shiyah suburb in central occupied Jerusalem is threatened with displacement.
They said following a meeting with inhabitants of the suburb that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) controlled municipality of Jerusalem had issued orders for the demolition of 100 buildings in Shiyah that provide shelter for 4,000 citizens out of the total 15,000 inhabitants of the suburb.
Quds Press quoted Palestinians in the suburb as saying that the municipality was also trying to control land near Shiyah in order expand the nearby Jewish cemetery.
They said that the municipality was targeting the suburb in view of its strategic importance in the demographic balance in Jerusalem.
