CAIRO, (PIC)-- An Egyptian architect Dr. Hisham Juraisha has practically implemented his idea of building wooden houses in Gaza Strip to provide thousands of Palestinian families with much needed shelter after the IOF troops destroyed their homes during the war on Gaza.
Juraisha, who heads the architect department in the Egypt University for Science and Technology, put up the wooden house along the Cairo-Alexandria desert road costing him 2000 US dollars only, which encouraged him to teach the idea to his students.
According to Juraisha, the idea of the wooden house was meant to become a step on the path of breaking the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip, and to help thousands of Palestinian families protect themselves from the cold winter season.
Six months ago, Juraisha thought out the idea of building wooden houses using wood, sand bags, and insulation textiles as part of broader scheme to rebuild the besieged Strip as the Israeli occupation authorities banned the entry of cement and steel, the two main ingredients for construction, into the Strip.
“It is a house without steel and cement, yet, it is a nice two-story house made of wood, sand bags (for insulation), and water-proof clothe, and costs no more than 2000 US dollars”, said Juraisha in an interview with the PIC, adding that the idea could be implemented on a wide scale and could cover mosques and government buildings.
Moreover, Juraisha explained that the wooden house does not have the limitations of mud huts and could last longer”.
The idea of the wooden house was presented to and welcomed by the PA government in Gaza Strip, according to sources close to the government of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismael Haneyya.
In previous press release, Taher Al-Nuno, the spokesman of the PA government in Gaza, said that the Haneyya government received copies of the project and presented them to experts and specialists to study them and make recommendations as to the possibility of implementing the idea in the Gaza Strip, adding that the Haneyya government was talking the matter seriously and deals with all good ideas that could help break the unjust Israeli siege on the populated Strip.
Thousands of Palestinian families were turned homeless and are still living in tents in the open after the IOF troops destroyed their homes during the war on Gaza one year ago.
