Zahhar: No one will be sorry for Abbas’s departure from office

GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, a member of Hamas political bureau, stated Tuesday that no one would be sorry for the departure of Mahmoud Abbas from the political life because he achieved nothing for the Palestinian people and conspired with Israel and the US against the results of the last elections.

In a press statement, Dr. Zahhar said that Abbas’s intention not to run for elections is not a political maneuver because such tactics may succeed with a popularly-loved national figure whose departure could influence his people and prompt them to go on marches demanding him to reverse his decision to step down.

The Hamas official highlighted that the experience of late Egyptian president Jamal Abdelnasser was different because he was loved by his people, but Abbas hired dozens of people to organize fake marches and demonstrations in an attempt to clone the experience of Abdelnasser.

For his part, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri deplored Fatah official Saeb Erekat for attempting to use the paper of Hamas as a threat to enhance the policy of negotiations pursued by the Palestinian Authority (PA).

Spokesman Abu Zhuri said that Erekat’s talk about Abbas’s resignation and the transfer of his powers to Dr. Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC) did not reflect respect for the legitimacy of the council, but an attempt to throw the ball of fire which was produced by the failure of the peace process in the lap of Hamas.
