DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Tareq Hamod, the secretary-general of the Palestinian Return Assembly asserted Wednesday that the Palestinian people understand the stages of their national struggle very well, adding that no force could annul the Right of Return of the Palestinian people.
"The Palestinian people have indeed proved that they were great enough to protect their cause as they confronted all the challenges with exemplary firmness, and they remained adherents to their right of return because our historical presence is greater than could be eliminated by a deal or extraordinary force", Hamod, who was speaking to the PIC, asserted.
He also pointed out that the average Palestinian refugee is "aware of what s/he wants and what the enemy wants, and is aware of the sources of danger", explaining that the [Israeli] enemy was confused due to the external and the internal crises that strike him.
"The enemy doesn’t know whom he should confront first, the [Palestinian] refugee, the [Palestinian] fighter who carries the rocket, the [Palestinian] researcher who confirms the legal rights [of the Palestinian people], or the [Palestinian] journalist who exposes the [crimes] of the enemy", Hamod underlined.
However, despite his optimistic remarks, Hamod warned that there were many factors affecting Palestinian refugees and making them unable to organize their priorities, including the miserable life of refugee camps, and the lack of basic needs among other factors.
"It would be difficult to convince a refugee to focus on the right of return while rain leaks through the roof of his house, How could we convince the refugee who fled Iraq fearing for his life to advance the political and national dimensions of the RoR issue over his fears?", Hamod explained.
He also highlighted that the countries that most fear the idea of settling the [Palestinian] refugees on their soils were the ones that most contributed for pushing for such an idea because they denied the Palestinian refugees their simplest human rights.
Moreover, Hamod rejected the idea that the Palestinian negotiator poses danger to the RoR issue, explaining that the [PA] negotiating team would have dropped the RoR issue during the time of the Oslo agreement if they could as the political atmosphere then was far better for them than the current political atmosphere.
"The issue of the RoR is the hard rock that no negotiator could displace simply because it is the issue of two-thirds of the Palestinian people, and no political force, despite its size, could overcome the will of the Palestinian people", Hamod emphasized.
Furthermore, Hamod confirmed that history and facts on the ground proved that the Israeli bet on the idea that says: "The old [generation] die, and the young [generation] would forget" had fallen as it became clear that many of those who died for their country [Palestine] hadn't seen it.
Hence, he asserted, no one dares to compromise the national constants and the legal rights of the Palestinian people, highlighting that "a number of those negotiators attempted to do so in Geneva, the Dead Sea, and in Greece but couldn’t till today adopt what they had written".
Finally, Hamod underlined that the volume of awareness amongst the Palestinian people should be looked at as an important asset and effective weapon in the equation of struggle.
